1) Our Commitment

At JDN Transportation Services LLC, safety is non-negotiable. We plan every load, train every driver, and maintain every vehicle with one goal: zero preventable incidents. We operate in full compliance with the U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) and Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations (FMCSR). Our policy applies to all employees, contractors, vehicles, and work sites where we operate across the United States.

2) Roles & Responsibilities

  • Leadership: Provide resources, enforce policy, review KPIs (crashes, violations, CSA indicators), and lead continual improvement.
  • Safety & Compliance Team: Train, audit, and investigate; maintain driver and vehicle files; monitor HOS and ELD data; report and correct non-conformities.
  • Dispatch & Operations: Build safe routes, verify appointments and site constraints, prevent unrealistic scheduling, and support fatigue management.
  • Drivers: Operate defensively, follow HOS, complete DVIRs/ELDs accurately, secure cargo, report hazards/defects/incidents immediately.

3) Driver Qualification & Training

  • Valid CDL, medical certification, background and MVR checks, and road test prior to dispatch.
  • New-hire onboarding covers: FMCSR essentials, HOS/ELD use, speed & space management, distracted-driving prevention, fatigue, winter/weather driving, cargo securement, incident reporting, and customer site safety.
  • Ongoing training: quarterly refreshers, post-incident coaching, and remedial training when performance data indicates risk.

4) Hours of Service (HOS) & Fatigue

  • We use ELDs to record duty status and strictly enforce HOS.
  • No load is worth unsafe hours. Dispatchers may not pressure a driver to violate HOS; drivers must stop when fatigued and notify dispatch so we can re-plan safely.
  • Planned rest, weather buffers, and realistic transit windows are standard operating practice.

5) Substance & Impairment Policy

  • Zero tolerance for alcohol or controlled substances while operating a commercial vehicle.
  • Pre-employment, random, post-accident, and reasonable-suspicion testing are conducted per federal rules.
  • Medications that impair driving are prohibited. Report any prescribed medication that may affect safe operation to Safety for review.

6) Vehicle Maintenance & Inspections

  • Pre-/Post-Trip DVIRs are required for every trip; defects must be reported immediately.
  • Preventive maintenance follows manufacturer schedules; safety-critical repairs are completed before dispatch.
  • Vehicles are kept clean, with tires, brakes, lights, coupling devices, and emergency equipment checked routinely.

7) Cargo Securement & Special Handling

  • Freight is secured with appropriate restraints (straps, load bars, edge protection, seals).
  • High-value or sensitive loads may require additional procedures, tamper-evident seals, or team review.
  • Shippers must disclose hazardous materials or special requirements in advance; we will follow all applicable regulations and determine acceptance criteria.

8) Safe Driving Standards

  • Obey posted speed limits and reduce speed for weather, traffic, work zones, and poor visibility.
  • Maintain safe following distance and increase space in adverse conditions.
  • No handheld devices while driving; phone use only via approved hands-free methods and only when safe.
  • Seatbelts are mandatory at all times for all occupants.

9) Incidents, Near-Misses & Claims

  • Immediate reporting to dispatch and Safety for any crash, near-miss, injury, cargo shift, or property damage.
  • Protect the scene, call emergency services if required, gather facts/photos, and cooperate with investigations.
  • We analyze root causes and implement corrective actions (training, process, or equipment changes).

10) Site Safety & Customer Locations

  • Follow site rules (PPE, speed, staging). Use chocks where required.
  • Confirm dock constraints (height, yard rules, appointment times). Do not enter unsafe docks or yards.
  • Use spotters for tight maneuvers when available.

11) Communication & Stop-Work Authority

  • Every employee and contractor has the right and duty to stop work they believe is unsafe, without retaliation.
  • Safety concerns can be escalated directly to the Safety Team or Management at any time.

12) Policy Review

This policy is reviewed at least annually and whenever regulations or operations change.
